Caleres: Empowering innovation and growth using Sitecore Commerce at scale

Caleres, headquartered in St. Louis, MO, is the parent company to over 15 popular shoe brands including Famous Footwear, Naturalizer and Allen Edmonds. Caleres selected RBA as their strategic digital partner to build and manage their portfolio of digital brand experiences on the Sitecore platform and to prepare them for their next generation of eCommerce.

Challenge

Meeting the needs of online shoppers

Caleres had been using a custom CMS platform with a legacy commerce solution requiring heavy involvement from internal IT to make simple changes. This hindered their Marketing, Merchandising, and Brand Portfolio teams ability to meet their speed-to-market goals

RBA and Caleres Partnered to develop and fully execute a plan for accomplishing their multi-faceted goals. This included structuring a program with aligned workstreams for storefront, integration and core commerce functionality.

The solution harnesses the power of Sitecore on Azure to scale to meet the seasonal demands that Caleres experiences during the holidays hitting over 200 million pages views at peak times. Using a modern Platform as a Service (PaaS) approach for the solution, we were able to take advantage of the benefits of the cloud, while minimizing the need for additional IT management, allowing Caleres marketing to focus on driving growth through digital.

15 unique brands. 200M pageviews per month. Hundreds of transactions per minute. Tens of thousands of products and 100K+ variants. Seasonal and campaign-based discounts, PIM and order fulfillment integration…from a commerce perspective, this project had it all. Sitecore Experience Development

To power their entire brand portfolio, Caleres replaced an aging, custom CMS platform with Sitecore Experience Platform with Sitecore Experience Accelerator (SXA) hosted within Azure PaaS. This configuration supports scaling over 200 Million page views per month as well as online events and holiday supports peaks. 

Personalization strategy

Using Caleres’ existing marketing personas as a starting point, we envisioned a personalization roadmap that took all aspects of consumer aspirations into account: discount-focused, seasonal buyers, fashionistas, and much more.

Co-delivery & integration

RBA worked hand-in-hand with multiple cross-functional teams at Caleres. We assisted their teams in getting up to speed on Sitecore, and worked with internal development teams in an Agile process. We also had to integrate with several internal systems, including Product Information Management (PIM) and order fulfillment systems.

Cloud Infrastructure & PaaS

Using a modern Platform as a Service (PaaS) approach using the scalability and flexibility of Microsoft Azure, RBA was able to take advantage of the benefits of the cloud, minimizing the need for additional IT management. This allows the Caleres marketing team to focus on driving growth through digital.
